8 Signs Your Business Website Needs a Redesign

A website can quietly stop working for you long before it looks broken. These are the signs to watch for.

Interface design on screen

A redesign is not about following trends. It is about whether your website still does its job: helping customers trust you, find what they need and get in touch. If several of these sound familiar, it is time.

1. It is awkward on a phone

Most of your visitors are on mobile. Open your site on your own phone: do you have to pinch and zoom, are the buttons too small to tap, does text run off the screen? If so, many visitors leave before they read anything.

2. It loads slowly

People give a page a few seconds before giving up, especially on mobile data. Large uncompressed images, outdated themes and too many plugins are the usual causes. Test your site with Google's free PageSpeed Insights tool to see where you stand.

3. Nobody contacts you through it

If the site gets visitors but no calls, WhatsApp messages or form enquiries, something is in the way. Often the contact options are hidden, the next step is unclear, or the page simply does not answer what customers came to find out.

4. You are embarrassed to share it

If you hesitate to put the link on a proposal or business card, customers notice the same things you do. An outdated look makes a business seem smaller, or less active, than it really is.

5. The information is out of date

Old prices, services you no longer offer, a previous address or a "latest news" post from three years ago all suggest the business may not be active. If updating the site is so hard that nobody does it, the platform itself is the problem.

6. It no longer matches your brand

Businesses grow and change. If your logo, colours, services or target customers have moved on, the website should reflect who you are now, not who you were when it was built.

7. It does not show up on Google

Search for your service and town, for example "plumber in Kisumu". If you are nowhere to be found, the site may be missing basics such as proper page titles, descriptions, fast loading, mobile support and a Google Business Profile linked to it.

8. It is not secure

If browsers show "Not secure" next to your address, visitors see that warning before they see your business. Every site needs HTTPS, and the software behind it needs regular updates. An outdated, unpatched site is also a common target for hackers.

Redesign or refresh?

Not every problem needs a full rebuild. Speed, security and outdated content can often be fixed on the current site. A redesign makes sense when the site does not work on mobile, cannot be updated easily, or no longer represents the business.
